Bumthang hotel in Jakar

In light of the cold ass rooms, we retreated most afternoons/dinner/post dinner to the common room/dining room of the hotel that had a huge warm stove going, with lots of tea and beer to be had!!!

Red Panda was an awesome hearty unfiltered white beer!!!  My favorite beer of the whole trip!!

Another group traveling with the same Bhutan company met up with us in the evening in the dining room.  12 older Brits, traveling with their buddy "slime", a charismatic old time kayaker who did a lot of the first descents and explorations of Bhutan rivers in the late 90's with Gerry (another kayaker with us on our last river who made most of the first descents of the Bhutan/Nepal rivers), and co-authored the whitewater guide for Nepal. they all had a grand reunion, and it was fun to be around guys with so much experience and history in the area. traveling with them as a guide was another guy named Patrick, who happens to own the Last Resort in Nepal, our destination after leaving Bhutan. small world.  We will be kayaking with them tomorrow.

Needless to say, once the hotel kicked us out of the dining room for the night at 9 pm -  Dan and I ended up back in the Brits room with Patrick drinking whiskey and beer and playing a card game called "dirty clubs" until pretty late.
